AistripTechnologies just gave a stunning technology presentation at the Apple’s WWDC Conference by showing off the possibilities that the new iPhone OS 3.0 provides them. What they presented was a demo of their FDA approved flagship product, Airstrip OB, which provides the ability for patients to transmit data measured by medical devices directly to the physicians iPhone where the physician can then review and analyze the data.
According to their website, AirStrip “delivers vital patient waveform data — including fetal heartbeat and maternal contraction patterns — in virtual real-time directly from the hospital labor and delivery unit to a doctor’s mobile wireless device”.
This is one of the most exciting applications for the iPhone yet and an excellent example that the iPhone’s advanced hardware features, excellent developer toolkit and application marketplace have made it THE mobile device for mHealth. Now let’s just see if Apple launches the front-facing camera today which would allow telemedicine video-chat, and we’ll have a truly excellent mHealth device.
Update : New iPhone just presented - no front-facing camera
shame.
Update 2: Just received a message from @chloevdc to check out an application developed by researchers at Washington University in St.Louis that allows ultasound images to be sent directly to windows mobile devices. Watch the demo video here.
